4 Tips for Cooking Veggies to Make Them Taste Great // andreadahlman.com

Vegetables are such an underestimated part of the food group. We know how healthy they are for us, with all their vitamins and minerals, but most people don’t enjoy eating them because of their taste. Luckily, there are many ways to prepare delicious veggies that you can actually enjoy eating!

Here are a few cooking hacks that will make your vegetables taste great so you can increase those servings per day:

Roast your veggies in the oven – Coat your vegetables with a drizzle of oil and put them in the oven. They’ll come out extra crispy and delicious. Almost every vegetable will taste amazing this way, even Brussels sprouts! You can also fry them in the pan— usually, they’ll turn out just as crispy and in half the time. An air fryer can give you those crispy veggies with just a drop of olive oil, and they’ll still taste amazing.

Don’t forget your seasoning – Much like all other foods, veggies can taste bland without any seasoning. Along with the classic salt and pepper, garlic goes well with pretty much every single vegetable. Try out different spices and find what you like. You can create different spice blends to cater to whatever cuisine you’re feeling— Greek, Mexican, Moroccan, Indian— the possibilities are endless. You also don’t need to limit your seasoning to dried spices. You can make sauces and marinades as well. Veggies taste amazing when mixed with coconut amino sauce or teriyaki sauce.

Pair your veggies with other tasty foods – Dips such as guacamole, hummus, or ranch are great ways to eat your veggies because the dip’s flavor will always be more noticeable than the vegetables themselves. You can also throw your vegetables into an omelet. If you’re making the main meal, marinate your vegetables with the rest of your food. If you eat dairy, try topping your veggies with some grated cheese, and it will instantly elevate the taste. There are also many different types of dairy-free cheese available.

Try out some new vegetables – Get adventurous next time you’re at the grocery store. If you don’t like the veggies you’ve been eating, but keep buying the same ones, then maybe it’s time to try something new. There’s so much more out there than just cucumber, carrots, and lettuce. Check what’s in-season so that you can get the freshest veggies possible. Veggies have so many different flavors and textures, so there’s bound to be something out there that you like.

If you still find that you don’t enjoy eating your vegetables and can’t eat enough to meet the recommended daily servings, try hiding your vegetables in other foods. Some veggies can be added to your smoothies without changing the taste at all. Cauliflower, zucchini, and spinach are especially great additions to your morning smoothie, as the sweet fruits will mask the flavor of the vegetables. You can even add veggies such as carrots and zucchini to your muffins and banana bread.
